La circoncisione di Gesù è un evento narrato dal Vangelo secondo Luca (2,21): otto giorni dopo la sua nascita, Gesù venne circonciso secondo la prassi ebraica della Milah.
L’evento viene ricordato dalla Chiesa ortodossa con la corrispondente festa liturgica celebrata il 1º gennaio del calendario giuliano, corrispondente al 14 gennaio dell’universale calendario gregoriano.
La Festa della Circoncisione di Nostro Signore è una celebrazione religiosa nell’ottavo giorno dopo la nascita di Gesù.

Riccardo Pacifici, presidente della Comunita’ ebraica romana, commenta la scelta del regista Guido Chiesa nel film ‘Io sono con te’, oggi in concorso al Festival internazionale di Roma. Nella pellicola, Chiesa racconta una storia di Maria di Nazareth particolare, dove la Madonna viene vista come una ‘rivoluzionaria’ che disubbidisce alle regole della comunita’ israelitica e, prima fra tutte, quella della circoncisione imposta ai neonati all’ottavo giorno di vita.
